KINGS INTERNATIONAL BOXING PROMOTIONS SENDS IBF WORLD SUPER FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION JONAS SULTAN TO US

One-time world title challenger Jonas Sultan is set to fly to the US on Sunday to spar with IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas.

Sultan, 28, challenged Ancajas for the world title in 2018 in Fresno, California, where he lost by way of unanimous decision.

The former rivals turned sparring partners will trade leather inside the ring under the supervision of Filipino boxing coach Joven Jimenez.

“As the new promoter of Jonas Sultan, we want him to focus on training in the US. This is also a big opportunity to spar with Ancajas,” ZC Kings International Boxing Promotion spokesperson Rocky Chan told GMA News Online.

“This way he will be ready anytime for a fight. Around December or January, we will try to give him a fight in Mexico or the USA.”

Sultan, who holds a record of 16-5 with 10 knockouts, has wins over the current WBO world bantamweight champion Johnriel Casimero and former WBC world flyweight world champion Sonny Boy Jaro.

Sultan signed with ZC Kings International, owned by philanthropist Cory Navarro after his old handler ALA Promotions closed shop in August due to the losses brought upon the COVID-19 pandemic. Navarro also owns the Zamboanga Valientes MLV of NBL and Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3x3.

Ancajas, meanwhile, flew to the US on Sept. 30 together with his trainer and manager Jimenez. He is set to make the ninth defense of his world title against Mexican slugger Jonathan Rodriguez in a yet to be determined date in Las Vegas. – RC, GMA News
